FAQ

Why trust the Bible since it was written so long ago?

Fulfilled predictions the Bible contains. . .
bible The Bible is not just another book. It is very unique in that it contains many predictions that came true even thousands of years after they were predicted. The Bible consists of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament (O.T.) was written before Jesus was born. The New Testament (N.T.) tells about the life of Christ, written by men who knew Jesus, who walked with Jesus, who ate with Him, and who followed Him. The O.T. contained predictions that there will come a Savior for mankind. It tells us the place of His birth (Micah 5:1-2), that He would be betrayed by a close friend (Psalms 41:9), that He would die by having His hands and feet pierced (Psalms 22:16-18) but that He would rise from the dead (Psalms 16:10, 49:15). And all these prophecies and many more are fulfilled by Jesus in the New Testament. How do you explain the many predictions that came true thousands of years after they were predicted? God can look into the future and has power over it. The Bible has been written under the inspiration of God, and it has proven itself to be true.

The consistency of the Bible. . .
The whole Bible consists of a set of 66 different books written by 40 different authors, on three continents of the world (Asia, Africa, and Europe), over a period of almost 1500 years, in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek). Yet the whole Bible has one central story line--God's redeeming (saving) mankind. The Old Testament proclaims the Savior is coming ("Jesus is coming"), while the New Testament proclaims "Jesus is here." That's why it's been said the Old Testament is the New Testament hidden, and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. The books of the Bible are consistent, in complete harmony and in unity with each other despite the fact that they were written over a period of 1500 years by 40 different men (many of whom never even met the others!) from different parts of the world. How could this be? Because there's only one Author who inspired all the writers. The one Author behind it all is God. Can you find another set of 66 books in the world (written by 40 authors on three continents of the world in three different languages over the 1500 years span) ALL of which when combined together tell one central story, and maintain a harmony and consistency with each other? There is no other book like it. The Bible is not just another book. It is divine in its origin.

WHY BELIEVE THE BIBLE?

One Author who inspired it: God

Written over a period of some 1500 years

40 Writers
(Differing vocations, education, sophistication)
3 Continents
(Europe, Asia, Africa)
3 Languages
(Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek)

but all in agreement about
one central story line...

REDEMPTION OF MANKIND

What would happen if:
You chose 10 authors from the same city, with the same culture, the same educational level, speaking the same language to write a book about one controversial topic such as the meaning of life. Would they be in agreement?

What the Bible predicts for the future. . .
The Bible also predicts things to come in the future. It tells us that "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). But the Bible tells us that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ has eternal life and will not be condemned (Acts 16:31). Placing our faith in Christ means believing and trusting that only His death on the cross can pay for sins in full. It also involves a change of heart and mind. God gives us a changed heart and mind. It involves turning to Him from self, and inviting Him into our life to forgive us and to make us what He wants us to be. The Bible tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). And Jesus said anyone who believes in Him has eternal life and will not be condemned, but has already crossed over from death to life (John 5:24).
